About the Business
Martins, or Frederick Martin as it was first known, has been a fixture on Leys Avenue since 1936, when Maurice Reed started the business of supplying all types of household furniture. Giving great value and friendly customer service to a loyal local customer base, the company grew from strength to strength through both good and challenging economic times - including one World War and a couple of recessions.
After 40 years of hard work, Maurice retired in 1976 and passed down the business to two of his sons, Norman and Raymond Reed, who have been at the helm ever since and expanded the business to where it is today with 10 retail outlets in a row covering over 20,000 sq ft.
In November 2008, Norman with his wife Ruth retired. Raymond is currently in semi retirement. The overall management of the business has been passed down to another member of the family - Stephen White, Ruth's younger brother.
