About the Business
Fosters For Furniture started over 80 years ago in 1926 by Randal Roland Foster as a pawn brokers. At that time the shop stood where the dual carriage way now runs, on the corner of Norfolk Street and Effingham Street. The business gradually changed to encompass the sale of boots and shoes, bedding, jewellery and furniture. It was in the roaring forties that Randal's son took over the business. This was a great boon for the shop as Randal II proved to have a good head for business. During the 1950's the business moved to new premises on Effingham Street, opposite where the current shop now stands. It was also around this time that the pawn broking business had all but ceased, and retail furniture was the main business. In the early 1960's Foster's moved to the site they occupy today, becoming a limited company in 1964. The business and property has continued to expand and is now one of the largest independent furniture retailers in South Yorkshire.
